On 26 January the traveling exhibition “Money, Sovereignty and Power: The Paper Currency of Revolutionary Ukraine, 1917-1920” opened in Winnipeg at the Oseredok Gallery and Museum. The exhibit explores the issue of Ukrainian sovereignty and the efforts at symbolic representation on paper notes produced by the various governments of Ukraine during the revolutionary period, 1917-1920.
The Prairie Centre for the Study of Ukrainian Heritage organized the exhibit in co-operation with Oseredok and the Ukrainian Museum of Canada (Saskatoon). Speaking at the opening, Oseredok Director Sophia Kachor stated, “The partnership with PCUH creates a synergy that has allowed important projects such as this to be realized. The partnership enables us to fulfil our mandate to serve the community. But more importantly, it creates an opportunity for our community to explore its cultural and historical patrimony with continuing relevance for today. The Prairie Centre for Ukrainian Heritage is an extraordinary resource and we look forward to working with the centre on other projects in the future. ”
Curated by Prof. Bohdan Kordan, the exhibition “Money, Sovereignty and Power” will be displayed in the main gallery until April 21, 2014. This is the second stop for the exhbition, which will travel to Toronto, Victoria, Lethbridge and Calgary.
